I hope you enjoyed the video about my experience learning about and implementing mission statements into my efforts as a mama. Here’s a recap if you are a reader instead of a viewer…
MAMAS—HOW ABOUT CLARIFYING YOUR MISSION & VISION?
OK—so… I’d like to share with you a little thought about the importance of having a mission, even as a mother!! Especially as a MOTHER!!
This idea was introduced to me by one of my greatest mentors, Angela Baker. I first met Angela when she came to my home eight years ago as a guest speaker for an American Mothers meeting.
CULTIVATE GREAT CULTURE AND PURPOSE—WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AS A MAMA?
She introduced the idea of having a mother mission statement. The women loved the idea of running a family like a business or any other entity that wants to cultivate great culture and purpose.
Angela suggested that mothers become very intentional about creating a mission for themselves as a mother. She recommended that we discover and put into words who we are and who we want to be as a mother. She encouraged us to write a statement expressing what we want to exude from our efforts each day. She invited us to START BIG by writing everything we could think of, and then to reduce our writing down to One. Specific. Thought. This process is best done over time. (Although I did it all in one morning—so you know… just do what works for YOU!)
JUST GET STARTED… AND GO FROM ALL OF YOUR MASSIVE BIG IDEAS TO SPECIFIC STATEMENT(S).
The best way to approach this work is to set aside some specific time to start collecting words and phrases as part of a HUGE BRAINSTORM. You might want to start with several pages, and then reduce that down to one solid paragraph. The ultimate goal is to reduce and refine your statement down to the very select most important words that represent who you are or who you want to become.
WHO DO YOU WANT TO BECOME—CALL FORTH THE ULTIMATE MAMA WITHIN!
I loved the idea! I always like to focus more on who I hope to be as opposed to who I already am because I always want to be improving and changing. I’ll share what I came up with after going through this exercise. (I sure appreciated having such a great mentor to guide me!)
It was a tremendous experience! I was able to reduce my writing down to one thrilling sentence, which goes like this:
“I am a conduit of light reflecting truth and charity, inspiring others to realize and act upon their divine gifts through direct revelation.”
So you see, this statement reminds and motivates me to be who I’m trying to become! (Not necessarily saying that I’ve arrived there… just shooting for it!) This statement has been of great value to me as a mother because this is really what I’m trying to achieve with my children—specifically to be a conduit of light to them, and to reflect truth and charity to them in an inspiring way.
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN (IF YA WANNA GIVE IT A WHIRL).
I’ve organized what I’ve learned about writing a mother mission statement into a little guide so I can share it with my mama friends—and HOPEFULLY that means YOU! I hope you’ll share with me what you come up with for your mother mission. E-mail it to me at email@example.com.
Here’s a little guide that I created to help you think through the flow of writing your own mother mission statement if you’d like to give it a try!
Just the act alone of brainstorming what type of mother you hope to be and circling those power words that most encapsulate your vision is a boost of happiness to wrap your day of motherhood in a warm blanket of remembering the WHY behind the challenge.
SHARE WITH ME AND SHARE WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND MAMAS (THEY’LL THANK YOU)!
Just click the above link and the guide will be e-mailed to you. The best part for me would be to hear from you once you’ve crafted your new and exciting, inspiring and purpose guiding statement. So please be sure to share it with me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let’s celebrate your ideas together! And if it’s meaningful to you, like it was for me when mentored by Angela, then pass along the love and share with your closest mama friends.
