Fast – Simple – Routine – Achievable – Healthy – That is what I’m going for with my meal planning and shopping system! I think I’ve nailed it since I only spend 10 minutes on Sundays adding new recipes and a short time on Mondays shopping online for the ingredients not already in my pantry. BAM – SYSTEMS – SYSTEMS – SYSTEMS Mamas!!! They will keep you sane!
I get asked almost weekly to share our family meal planning system and ideas for recipes. So here it is in all of its glorious imperfection! (We are both a work in progress – so be gentle with your critiques!) The video outlines the basic ideas and concepts of how I organize, prepare, execute and complete our weekly meal planning, shopping, cooking and the glorious EATING! I do love food – maybe too much. My kids are loving it more since I instituted our new meal rotation system and they enjoy getting new recipes each week.
Keep in mind that this is our “actual” system… and it’s a work in progress (so expect imperfection) and hopefully, you might glean some ideas on how to improve your current system (or feel inspired to start a system for meal planning).
The goal really is not to master meal planning, but to master systems in general to FREE UP MY TIME to get to my “WHY” and spend time living my ideal life of purpose and passion… NOT spending all of my time and energy on food consumption. I do LOVE meal prep, cooking (especially cooking with my children) and EATING – – yet I don’t want food to rule my world so I feel very happy when it is quick, simple, healthy and lovely to present to our family for our daily meals.
(honesty disclaimer… it is not usually lovely—my kids are quite messy eaters— and it is often at the kitchen bar rather than a sit down formal meal… it IS however usually healthy and so I pat myself on the back for WINS and allow myself some space and forgiveness for the imperfection.)
