Warning of Wicked Men – By Contributor Mama Kristy

My husband and I have started waking up together at 6am so that we could get a good 30-45 minutes of study in before our kids wake up. This specific Sunday morning we were both feeling excited but stressed as we were in the middle of trying to decide where to move and had found what looked to be a perfect house. That morning in our study and prayer we knelt and asked the Lord if there was anything else we should know or do before moving forward with this house. After praying for a few more things we ended the prayer, sat on the couch and opened our scriptures. We were reading through the Doctrine and Covenants together and so we opened up to what was supposed to be the next section. We began reading Doctrine and Covenants section 10. Here are a few words that immediately stuck out.

  • Wicked men
  • Evil design
  • “Behold, they have sought to destroy you; yea, even the man in whom you have trusted has sought to destroy you.”

We were reading the chapter that discusses the evil men who took and changed the 116 lost pages. As we read, I was shocked, and honestly didn’t believe (didn’t want to believe) that what we were reading had anything to do with the house we were looking at. I tried to tell myself that it was just a coincidence that we were reading this chapter on this day. Yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this was a direct answer to our prayer. After reading the chapter we looked at each other in shock and disbelief, and both began researching the history of the house and the owner. After 30 minutes of online research we were 100% sure that we were in the middle of a scam. Feeling humbled we knelt in prayer and thanked Heavenly Father for warning us before any information or money was lost.

As I pondered about our scripture study throughout the rest of the day, one overriding thought kept coming to my mind. I do not need to fear the world or what man can do. As long as I am daily connected with Heavenly Father, He will warn, guide, direct, and prepare me for anything that will come in my path. The only thing I need to fear is not being connected to Heavenly Father.
